The main purpose of defoliation is to ensure that the grapes have optimal exposure to sunlight during the ripening stage.
For grapes so defoliated we insured the reachability of pesticide treatments, adequate air circulation to prevent rot (botrytis gray) and, in the case of red grapes, an increased accumulation of antioxidants and anthocyanins.
Tenuta dell'Agnerone, through the painstaking job of qualified personnel, carry out the defoliation manually, in two phases: in the first phase, when the grapes begin to change color, a slight defoliation is carried out, removing the old basal leaves, so as to allow the grapes to get used to the light and warmth of the sun; completion of defoliation occurs in the month of August also intended to facilitate subsequent collection.
